Birdation’s surprise release “Haggard” in the last days of April pre-empted and prompted this hot run of PopLib posting form. At the time it was a standalone tune from the maverick guitar shredder/ drummer/ lo-fi electronics adventurer, but within a week the surprise collection “a real handful” of Birdation tunes appeared. Here’s another guitar-dominated tune “Spikes”:

Lo-fi electronic percussion and glitches underpin this tensely coiled instrumental. It could be a soundtrack to a chase scene through wet neon-lit streets, alleyways and corridors in a dark and grainy crime/ spy/ sci-fi thriller. Unfortunately music supervisors in films and TV series seem to have pretty obvious mainstream tastes and look in the obvious mainstream places and find obvious mainstream soundtrack music. They should be looking for Birdation.
